Laciona, Greece, 1941

------------------------

"Ahh, Spárti." Gianna smiled, stretching out her back as soon as they got a respectable distance from the landed plane, "Η χώρα των τρελών μικρών σπηλαίων!"

The Land of Crazy Little Caves!

"Yeah, you can say that again." Sparky rolled his eyes playfully. The two took each other's hands. Indiana tensed, then snapped his fingers so Gianna could translate for him.

"So the Door's in some cave?" Indiana questioned silently. Gianna nodded.

"The legend states everything about the Door, and one of the passages list 'Η παύση ενώπιον νεκρών και ζωντανών.'" Gianna put a hand on her own journal, "That describes the Door as the 'Pause between the Dead and the Living.'"

"A pit stop." Sparky added.

"So it must be in a cave. The final place before the gates to the underworld..." Indiana nodded, still making sure his lips could be seen by Gianna- it felt good to be somewhat "heard" again. "But where would this be?"

"Nobody said it was a cave." Gianna crossed her arms.

"It wouldn't be in a field." Indiana challenged, crossing his arms.

"Well, there's a few places it could be." Sparky interrupted, taking his journal from Indiana's loosened hands, "One is the Acheron river, known for being the river to the Underworld, rumored to send the Dead to Hades... Then the second one is Cape Matapan, which has a literal stone cavern waiting to be investigated... Then there's the less likely option- The Plutonion Cave of Eleusis."

"Cape Matapan." Indiana mouthed.

"Acheron River." Gianna immediately challenged, eyeing Indiana.

"Guys, please, we can just discuss this over coffee..." Sparky chuckled nervously.

"Who can speak here, hmm?" Gianna turned to Sparky, "Chi può parlare qui, io o lui?"

Who can speak here, me or him?

Indiana huffed.

The audacity.

"Gia, why're you getting so worked up over this?" Sparky asked, "It's a lead on where we're going, in our studies..."

"Stay out of this, Sparky." Indiana mouthed. But of course, nobody could hear him.

"Dennis is right, it's better we refresh ourselves without causing a fuss." Marcus stepped in, "Indy, please."

Indiana then fastened his grip on his satchel and moved, tugging Sparky by the wrist while Gianna and Marcus followed.

"Sir! Sir, slow down..." Sparky began, catching up to the frustrated mute man's pace, "We're just starting!"

"They have my voice, Sparky!" Indiana turned to face his son, "And soon, everything else!"

"I-I can't understand you!" Sparky was stressed.

"NEITHER CAN I!" Indiana was starting to get tired of this mute life- as if he wasn't already.

So he walked along the streets of Laciona, Sparky in tow, with Gianna and Marcus following behind. He needed to lay low, as he knew the Nazis would have the same idea as him and his... "Crew", let's say. He could only miss his voice so much, and so he had to pick the exact spot the Nazis were to go to in order to get it back.

The only place he could think of that would have a "Door" would be Cape Matapan. It was all in the description. A hut was said to be there- a hut. He had to find out more.

Perhaps in a library...

He took a turn at the nearest cafe, skimming right past the available foods that Laciona had to offer.

"Ah- SIR!" Sparky stammered, "We're going past the FOOD! The FOOD! The COFFEE!" Due to the sweatiness of Sparky's palm, Indiana could definitely tell his son's anxiety was spiking, particularly in his schedule he had decided without anyone's interferance.

"Indiana!" Marcus called after the men.

The mute Archaeologist then stopped at the sight of the word "Βιβλιοθήκη".

Library.

Just what I wanted.

Opening the doors, he immediately searched for any books in relation to the gates of Hades.

* * * *

"What's he looking for?!" Marcus had muttered to Gianna as he watched Indiana skim the shelves.

"Something about Hades, I think." Gianna then pulled on Sparky's arm, "Dr. Jones, I'll help you! Come, Spítha!"

"Oh, we're doing this now?!"

Indiana snapped his fingers in Gianna's direction, causing her to look up at him mouthing the words, "Get anything that mentions Hades or the Underworld and put it on that table!"

"Si, Signore!"

"What'd he say?" Sparky asked, trying to follow Indiana's gaze as if he could read his mind.

"Get anything about Hades and the Underworld and bring them to the table, Spítha!"

"I'll help, too!" Marcus joined the other three as they scaled the shelves. It was hard to find any book on such a specific topic due to the German Occupation at the time, but they did come across a few that gave enough: "Οι Άθλοι του Ηρακλή" (The Labors of Hercules) and "Μυθολογία της Γης μας" (Mythology of our Land)

"God, I wish they cared about folklore now." Sparky observed, "This is all we found?!"

"It's all we can find in the little time we have!" Indiana shot back, not even caring that Sparky couldn't see his mouth as he whipped open the one about Hercules. He mouthed the words from the page, translating the Greek in his head and hearing Gianna do the same with the other book.

After a while, he finally got something from the book.

He snapped his fingers in Gianna's direction, "Here."

"All eyes, Dr. Jones." She responded, looking up to face him.

"It says here that Hercules traveled to Hades to retrieve Cerberus." He mouthed.

"I know."

"At Cape. Matapan." He slammed the book down, "There."

"That doesn't prove anything."

"It's the only one openly expressed in the legend itself."

She peered over the text, muttering to herself.

She then looked back up at the quite smug archaeologist, "Well, I'll be." She turned back to Sparky, "Spítha, your father was right."

"About what?"

"About the location of the Door. It's at Cape Matapan. Write it down!"

"How could you be so sure?" Marcus asked.

"It's in the book."

"Yes, but-"

"Guys...?" Sparky turned around, "This may be kind of awkward, but..." He referenced to his spot at a nearby table- behind Gianna, "My satchel's gone. And my journal was inside it."

Indiana's eyes narrowed. This was the worst time to lose something. But then again, didn't he always lose something when on an adventure?

"Are you sure you had your satchel there?" Gianna tilted her head.

"Positive." Sparky's eyes widened, "You don't think someone took it, right?"

That's when Indiana noticed something- a figure at the library's entrance, shuffling with a green satchel in his hands, and not around his shoulder. Why would someone carry a satchel?

"A random satchel? Not likely." Marcus shook his head, "Perhaps it's in lost and found."

The figure then turned, which is when Indiana saw the swaztika symbol wrapped around his arm. He stood up, hitting the desk so everyone could look at him pointing at the Nazi.

"Not anyone would take it... BUT THEY WOULD!" He mouthed.

The other three turned around to see the Nazi rush out the door, enough to color them convinced of the book being in his possession.

"THEY'VE FOUND US!" Sparky exclaimed.

"AFTER THAT BOOK!" Gianna stood up, running out the door with Indiana following close behind.

Dammit, I can't catch a break around here...
