At last, the long awaited day had come, Don’s surgery was finally about to take place.

Overwhelmed with joy and excitement, Lara began speaking with Dr. Thorn Heart about her brother’s operation. Thorn Heart reminded her that the surgery would not be an easy one, and that her brother had been placed in a medically induced coma to give the hospital more time to find a doctor experienced enough to save his life. Vita Suprema Medical Hospital had done everything possible to keep him stable.

There was, however, a great risk. Don could suffer severe memory loss, neurological issues, and even motor impairments. In the best-case scenario, he would need a long period of physical therapy. But that was the least of their worries. It might have sounded strange that a hospital known for its elite doctors could not handle such a case, but Vita Suprema Medical was famous for something else, no patient who entered through its doors had ever lost their life. Calling in a specialist from abroad was not an unusual procedure for them, which was why Dr. Thorn Heart was already familiar with such operations.

During the surgery, Thorn Heart quickly understood why the local doctors had hesitated to touch Don. His lungs were severely damaged, his heart was barely pumping blood, and if the operation had been delayed even a few more days, he would not have survived. Several ribs were also fractured. After hours of delicate and precise procedures, Don was finally ready to receive his new organs. Despite the difficulty, Thorn Heart managed to replace his heart successfully.

The air in the room began to feel heavier with every passing minute. The brilliant doctor could not tell if the pressure he felt came from Don’s unstable condition or from his own worsening health. For five seconds, he experienced the strongest heart palpitations of his life. He almost lost consciousness, but he forced himself to continue.

Ten long hours passed before the surgery was finally completed. Exhausted, Thorn Heart thanked the two doctors who had assisted him and the three nurses who had supported the operation, and then suddenly collapsed to the floor.

He was quickly taken to a resting room while Lara was informed that her brother’s operation had been a success. Don would need a few days before being awakened gradually.
