Putau the salamander was convinced that most of the world's conflicts are caused by characters wielding fire. He claimed that he himself had been born from the flames to put an end to all fire users. Thanks to his charisma, Putau gathered a group of his kind: Tingu, Staba, Vulka and Hephae. Each one's motives to join him were different:

Tingu followed him only because of his wife's fascination.

Vulka saw a proof of Putau's theory with her own eyes. She had come from a region haunted by a fire-breathing dragon.

Hephae was a young man with no direction in his life. Putau gave him a sense of purpose.

Together, they planned a kind of crusade to wipe out all the alleged evil.

On a stroll, Scarlett Chowklet came across a fiery wil-o’-the-wisp. Her body absorbed it and she got fire power. It manifested as two narrow flaming ‘’wings’’ coming out from above her chest. Excited with new abilities, Scarlett challenged Knuckles to a duel. She surprised him, but also lost control. The flames refused to go out. The fight was stopped. Knuckles’s older brother, Ankles, told Lettie to imagine a glacier. That only made the fire brighter. Eventually, Scarlett was sent to Blaze for training. The cat suggested that she needed to find a way to manage her emotions.

While practicing far from home, they were surrounded by Putau's gang. Despite Scarlett's usual bold temperament, she felt scared. Fortunately, Blaze kept her cool. They tried to escape. On the way, they met another fire-wielding character, Candela the racoon. She could manipulate the fire of candles.

To save Blaze and Scarlett, Sonic and Ringo were sent. Knuckles wanted to go too, but he couldn't because of his Emerald Guardian duties.

At the same time, a second story took place. It turned out that the Machine of Doom wasn't completely destroyed. She became sentient, rebuilt herself and pierced through Selkadoom's body, making it impossible for him to get rid of her. The master became slave and had to transport the Machine all the way through The Desert back to Emerald Forest. When Selkadoom was no longer needed for her, she disappeared, leaving him exhausted.

Kira, Silver and Blaze's daughter, felt as she was worse than her siblings because she had no powers. During a lonely walk she found The Living Circuit - a machine with an instinct of parasitising organisms. She was fascinated as she associated it with her father's inventions. Kira touched the Circuit and became infected. The Machine of Doom turned out to be connected with the Circuit. She seemed to keep Kira hostage.

When it was revealed what had happened, Silver had to choose who to save first. He decided to go help his daughter. The hedghehog wanted his other kids to stay in a safe place, but he also knew they would love to be useful. So, Silver told Meltie and Vapor to find Blaze.

The hedghehog was accompanied by Tails. When they appeared at Machine of Doom's place, Kira said:

- Dad, look how strong I am! I won't be a disappointment anymore.

Silver tried to explain the situation to Kira, imagining what she was going through. When the words failed, he showed that life is possible without powers.

He tore the wires connecting his nerves to telekinetic gloves apart.

The risky move caused horrendous pain and left Silver harmless. The Machine of Doom made fun of him, saying it was all no use. While her attention was diverted, Tails stayed by all the hardware and damaged it. Finally, the father's attempt seemed to help. Kira wanted to break free. The Machine started to collapse, then she was completely destroyed. After all of this, Silver hugged her daughter, assuring Kira that he loved her as she was.

Selkadoom was still trapped in his body. He begged Team Sonic for help. Despite him being their sworn enemy, they decided not to ignore the demon. They called Anomaly Service, whose crew used special rays to get Selkadoom's soul out of his mortal body. Tired by all the Machine's schemes, the demon just flew into the distance, promising that he will never cause Emerald Forest any trouble.
