Chapter 13 - Love
Sam: Yawn What... what happened?
He looked down to his right to see Rachel sleeping soundly next to him
Sam: Oh... right...
He smiled at the look on her face; how peaceful she looked like that. With the sound of his voice, she slowly woke up.
Rachel: Huh?
Sam: Good morning, beautiful.
Rachel: Morning...
Sam: How'd you sleep?
Rachel: I... I don't think I've ever slept better before
Sam: Yeah, it looked like it from here.
Rachel: How are your bruises?
Sam: I feel a lot better, thanks to you...
Rachel: Good.
A knocking can be heard on the door.
Rachel: Yes?
Dick: It's Dick. I'm coming in.
He walks in towards them.
Dick: Rae, have you seen--- whoa!!
Sam: Hey, Dick. Long night?
Dick: When did this happen?!
Rachel: Last night.
Sam: It was very romantic.
Dick: Uh... ok then. Now I know where you'll be...
Sam: How'd it go last night?
Dick: It's good news and bad news. The good news is, we found a large shipment of those weapons in that church. Bad news, no Black Mask. But he was there when Bane was.
Sam: Well, at least no more weapons on the street... Any idea where this guy is going?
Dick: Bruce is working on a hypothesis, but he'll take some time. For now, there's someone here who wants to meet you. They're downstairs waiting in the hall.
Sam: Wait, who is it?
Dick: To be honest, I was pretty surprised myself. But I won't spoil. See ya later. And congrats on the confession.
He left the room in a hurry, probably to tell Kori about them.
Rachel: I wonder who it is.
Sam: Yeah. I'll say hi, I guess. Wanna come?
Rachel: I'll join you in a little bit. I need to brush my hair before I forget.
Sam: Alright. See you soon.
He gave a quick kiss on the cheek before leaving the room to see who was visiting him. When he got to the hall, he saw a man standing at the glass full of artifacts.
???: If there's one thing that I've learned from this world, it's that it's people who always end up surprising me, even you, Sam.
Sam: Uh... should I know you?
He turned around to Sam, revealing himself to be Clark Kent, also known as Superman.
Clark: You know the other me.
Sam: Laughs Mr. Kent. Nice to meet you.
He held out his hand to Sam for a handshake. When they shook, his grip was firm, but Sam's wasn't that far.
Clark: Clark Kent, reporter for the Daily Planet in Metropolis.
Sam: I'm Samuel Johnson. It's nice to see you not... on the ground nearly dead...
Clark: Lex caught me off guard that day. You have my thanks for saving my life. Really.
Sam: I'd assume Bruce told you about me then.
Clark: Yeah. I'm sorry for what you went through as a child.
Bruce: Clark.
Clark: Ah, Bruce. Nice to see you out and about.
Sam: Oh, hey.
Bruce: What are you doing here?
Clark: What? Can't pay a friend a visit?
Bruce had no response, as always. He is definitely not a friendly face.
Clark: I came to offer the kid a tour.
Bruce: Seriously?
Clark: He deserves it, Bruce.
Sam: Um... what are we talking about?
Clark: As a token of my gratitude, I'm offering you a tour of the Hall of Justice. Most of the League is there actually, so soon would be a good time.
Sam: Are you serious? Let's do it! Actually, on one condition.
Clark: What is it?
Sam: You extend the invitation to my girlfriend
He pointed behind him to Rachel, who was walking down the stairs after brushing her hair.
Clark: Heh. How'd you do that?
Sam: I got really lucky.
Clark: Sure, she can come with us. We'll head out at noon.
He then headed for the study with Bruce to discuss something.
Rachel: Was that--
Sam: Yep. He invited us to the Hall of Justice today.
Rachel: Oh? That does sound nice.
Sam: What? You don't want to go?
Rachel: No, I'll go. For you...
Sam: Aw... Thank you, Rae...
He hugged her before she could say anything else. She returned the hug quickly.
Dick: Yeah! We're so happy for you guys!
Sam: Huh?
Dick and Kori joined in on their hug, feeling grateful for their new relationship.
Kori: I mean, I thought it was already obvious.
Dick: Right?
Rachel: Thanks, guys, I'm glad I found such a handsome boy.
Sam: Oh my--- uh... I'm glad I met such a beautiful girl.
Dick and Kori started laughing at their responses, even if it was a wholesome moment.
Dick: That's great... I heard you're going to the Hall of Justice soon.
Sam: Yeah. That sums it up.
Kori: I hope you guys enjoy yourselves.
Dick: We'll leave you to it then.
Sam and Rachel walked back to their room before breakfast.
Sam: Am I... pushing too hard, Rae?
Rachel: What do you mean?
Sam: It hasn't even been a day, and I feel like I'm already pushing you into things you don't wanna be involved in.
Rachel: I should've known you'd feel this way.
Sam: What?
Rachel: Sure, I may have underestimated how much this would affect our lives. But that's ok. As long as it's you, I'm sure we can work it out.
Sam: Wow... I keep forgetting how gorgeous you are...
Rachel: You'll probably need a reminder.
She pulled him back into the bed and started kissing him again. This time with more passion. They cuddled like that till it was time to head for the Hall of Justice, where the Justice League awaited.
